Explore the Beauty and Benefits of Hindustani Classical Music with Lakshmi
L to R: Harshdeep Walia, Lakshmi Seshadri and Ustad Surinder Mann
Lakshmi Seshadri has been training in the Gwalior tradition with Vidushi Neela Bhagwat for many years. Now a resident of the Bay Area, Lakshmi performs, teaches, composes and writes about music. She has also been mentored by Ustad Surinder Mann, or Mann saab, a renowned tabla player of the Punjab gharana and a stalwart in the local music scene.

In addition to the exquisite listening pleasure it affords, Indian classical offers many benefits. The "rasas" (flavors) of different raagas (melodic scales) have a profound impact on mood and physiological well-being. Learning to sing can be a lifelong passion and brings endless joy. One finds one's voice (literally and figuratively) by learning how to express oneself more authentically. Building a connection with Indian music offers one a glipmse into the cultural underpinnings of the democratic giant that is modern India.
Lakshmi picked up music as a working professional, and now aims to share her passion with old and young alike. Through lessons, workshops and lecture-demonstrations, she hopes to foster a connection between the practitioner and the art form. She also writes about her journey in music to make the process more accessible to others.
